Monday Night Ukulele

We are on a mission to show the world what four strings can do. We will teach you what you need to know. Even if you know a lot, we'll show you some new stuff. We're nice people, we make serious and not-so-serious music, and would love to see you at our rehearsals.

We meet on Monday nights. Times listed are Mountain (Denver) time.

  • Small ensembles meet at 6:30-ish pm.
  • The full ensemble meets at 7 pm.
  • We're always done by 8:30 pm.
  • Rehearsals are held at Green Mountain United Methodist Church in Lakewood. 12755 W Cedar Dr, Lakewood, CO 80228. Follow signs for the Tiny Hearts Academy and enter through the door in the basement on the northeast corner.

There are no auditions, but email us before showing up at rmukuleleorchestra@gmail.com. And we broadcast every rehearsal on YouTube, so members can join us from afar or tune in anytime to play along and practice with the gang.

To access our members' materials, you need to be a registered member of the orchestra. If you are new to the orchestra, please fill out this form.  If you're a current member or are still receiving our emails, you should already have received information about how to register for Spring 2026,

For the Spring 2026 Season, fees are $125. Once your member fee has been received, we will send you an invite to join our Slack group, which is our communications hub for all things RMUO.

Notes on Being Successful

  • Show up: You can't get great by yourself in the basement. It doesn't happen.
  • Practice: Do something every day. Every day!
    • Tune up every time.
    • Do your "Make a Better Bar" worksheet every time.
    • Play your difficult stuff. You don't need to play an entire ensemble piece ... only work on the tricky parts.
    • Leave 30% of your practice time at the end to "just play." You need to play things you love and are too easy for you at the end of each practice session to remind you how wonderful the ukulele can be and to help you become smooooth. You might even memorize a song accidentally if you play it regularly. This is good for your brain and your heart.
  • Ask for help: Seriously, there's a lot of great helpers (and a few with really tragic ideas) and plenty of music instructors and tons of ukulele knowledge all around you at every rehearsal. Don't suffer in silence.
  • Try not to complain. That's what real life is for. This is a magical activity. Enjoy the challenge. Becoming enlightened means accepting things as they are.

How to Read Our Music

  • Jerome's music notation guide updated for Fall 2025: PDF
  • Video on palm muting: YouTube

If you're not sure if you're joining us, let us convince you!

  • It's fun.
  • It's ukulele.
  • It's pretty cheap.
  • It can be a little work or a whole lot.
  • You'll be a part of small and large ensembles.
  • You'll get better faster by playing music with others.
  • The door is always open to anybody who wants to try.
  • Your cat shouldn't be your No. 1 fan. Your dog already is.
  • It doesn't matter whether you're great or terrible. (Honestly.)
  • We're the largest string orchestra in Colorado (we're pretty sure).
  • It's a couple hours on Monday nights and a wee bit o' practice at home.
  • We're pretty sure we're the largest and oldest community ukulele orchestra anywhere, but we might be wrong. We are definitely the best one in the world according to us.

We only bug ya about super important ukulele stuff. If you decide later you think free ukulele music, great jokes, and rare four-stringed opportunities are lame-o, it will be easy to unsubscribe. FYI, we get lots of robot registrations and so we delete any entries without last names. Robots do not know they are supposed to have those.
